Love Your Pet Writing Workshop

Dogs and cats make amazing story material. They make our lives worth living and always give us a reason to laugh. Come write about your pet in a fun, community setting with guidance from a New York Times essayist. Participants will jumpstart their creative juices by answering questions and using "prompts" to come up with one-of-a-kind stories about their pets. Attendees are encouraged to read aloud for appreciation and share their meaningful memories if they so desire.

Bring a journal or a notebook, something to write with, and pictures of your pet. Open to all ages and no writing experience is required.

Betsy Vereckey is a journalist and essayist who began her career as a reporter with the Associated Press. She is the author of the recently-published "Moving to My Dog's Hometown," a Kirkus-recommended pick, and lives in Vermont with her husband and three very opinionated terriers. During the course of the workshop, Betsy will also suggest writing tips that will make your story memorable, offer a few suggestions for publishing your stories if you so desire, and read a few lighthearted passages from her newly published memoir about her dog Ronan, the goodest boy that ever lived.
